Background:
The Canton Viaduct is the longest and oldest stone viaduct in the Western Hemisphere. The foundation stone was laid in 1834, and it was completed in 1835 by operative stone masons, many of whom were also Freemasons from area towns and Lodges. To commemorate the viaduct’s 175th anniversary and the Freemasons who were involved in the construction of this historic structure, it is being proposed that a granite stone obelisk be erected in or near the Canton Viaduct Park next to the waterfall on the west side of the structure near the Neponset Street opening. It is very likely that many of the Towns in the area had Freemasons from various Lodges that existed at the time who worked on the viaduct. This summer or fall, a multitown celebration commemorating the 175th anniversary of this National Historic Monument is expected to be held in Canton at the site of the structure. It is anticipated that numerous dignitaries will be there (It would be nice to get Officers from all the Lodges in the area there as well as other Grand Lodge dignitaries at this event as well) [Read more…]

DON’T LET THE MASONIC BAND CAMP MARCH WITHOUT YOUR STUDENT
The 2010 MASONIC HIGH SCHOOL BAND CAMP will be held on The University of Northern Colorado Campus (UNC) in Greeley, Colorado, from June 29 to July 3, 2010. We encourage your organization to provide a scholarship for one or more students. The Fees are $300.00 for each High School student, which covers the expenses except travel to and from Greeley. This fee can come from organization funds, members donations, or other means. All Colorado High School Band Directors will be sent an announcement, as well as a student application form. Should your organization wish to provide a scholarship for this program you may contact any High School Band Director as soon as possible, informing them that you are offering a scholarship(s) and ask them to select a student. Feel free to contact: Marvin Feldman, at 303-771-2889, email: mafhorn@comcast.net or the Grand Lodge at 719-471-9587 or 303-872-6120 Web site: coloradofreemasons.org for assistance.
It is very important that after a student is selected, you contact him/her prior to the Band Camp to make certain that the student is going to attend and, you may wish to bring the student and his/her parents to your Lodge/meeting to meet them and present them their scholarship. This would make a wonderful meeting night program and is a great way to get Masonic awareness.
All monies and application forms should be in no later that April 15, 2010. Recipients will be notified by the first week in May. Enrollment is limited to 120 students, so don’t delay in contacting your High School Band Director.
The High School Band Director can help you select a student. Students must be enrolled as 9th grade, 10th grade, and 11th grade students during the 2009-2010 school year. They should be experienced with at least one marching band instrument. If you wish to sponsor more then one student you may do so. Please send us their names and the instrument they play, this will help us develop a well-balanced instrumentation.
If you are unable to find a student(s) to sponsor the Band Camp will be happy to find a student(s) for you as we always have applicants from many areas where there is no sponsor.
The Colorado Masonic Band Camp is a 501c(3) tax exempt charitable corporation organized under the laws of Colorado. All donations are tax deductible.
